I was part of the literary circle in those days and am an old man now. I’m sorry to have to inform you that Theroux never went south of Buenos Aires. He sent a researcher down south to do the train bits and wrote them up from the researcher’s notes. This was common knowledge in BA in the 80s when the book came out. I felt you should know.
